The rate is $500 per week for 1-2 people and $750 per week for 3-6 people. Bookings can be made through this web site or by calling Tim at the hostel on 03 5356 4288.

The ground level has the kitchen, entrance hall, a lounge and toilet. It is an open plan with lovely views of the river and the mill which is next door.

The first floor has 2 bedrooms and the washing machine. The top floor has a bedroom, bathroom and the attic which has a table tennis table and dart board. All rooms have wonderful views of either the castle and river, or mill and river.

The house is situated in the heart of the village of Verteuil sur Charente between the castle and the mill and only 10 metres from the Charente river. Verteuil is in the Charente region of France. It is 2.5 hours from Paris and 1 hour from Bordeaux by the TGV. The Charente is located in the south West of France. The train stops at Ruffec and it is 6km to Verteuil by taxi.

There are many walks around and through the medieval village of Verteuil. One of the walks of St Jacques del Compestella passes through the village. The village is surrounded by many forests and pretty French countryside. It is in a region known as the Three Valleys and the medieval village of Verteuil is officially classified as "one of the most beautiful villages of France". The village has restaurants, a pub, a french bar, a general store, a hairdressers, a barber, a butcher, art shops and galleries.

The region is famous for cognac, beautiful wines, fresh produce from the farming communities. For a great days activity why not visit the great wineries in the region? For links to the wineries check out my links section below.

FOOD: Restaurants and cafes in the region are wonderful. There are links below to some of the restaurants in the region. If anyone is interested in doing a cooking course then look no further than Tasting France, a small bespoke cook school run by renowned food writer and journalist, Mary Cadogan and her husband Mick Rogers.
Check out my links below.

The house has a 4 person canoe, 5 bikes, a table tennis table and a dart board. A table and chairs can be carried 10 metres to the grass in front of the house and along the river edge to enjoy the fine local wines and produce.

For history enthusiasts look no further than the Charente. Dolmens abound in the region, Roman ruins and buildings, medieval castles, ancient farmhouses and 12th Century churches are all around. For a step back in time and a relaxing French holiday look no further than Tim's Place in France.
